Karen developed a passion for women’s healthcare when she spent time on a maternity ward in South Africa helping women through labor, and providing support to HIV positive mothers. She went on to work as a labor and delivery nurse in a busy hospital in Seattle for several years, during which time her passion for helping women give birth in a supportive, safe environment led to her pursuing her Masters in Nursing, and becoming a CNM. After relocating to California, she continued to work in women’s healthcare, and became a mother herself. After the birth of her second son, her passion for out of hospital birth grew, and she has been supporting women in this setting ever since. When not at a birth, she enjoys gardening, photography, traveling, and taking her kids to Disneyland.
